A word from the Head of Secondary

At The North Green School, Secondary education is about far more than completing syllabi or preparing for examinations. It is about nurturing young people who are confident, responsible, and reflective learners — students who understand how to learn, manage themselves, and rise to challenge with purpose.

Our Online School Programme fully reflects this philosophy. Even when learning takes place away from campus, our students remain academically engaged, well-supported, and accountable for their progress. Learning continues with structure, direction, and care.

For Secondary students, online learning at TNGS mirrors the discipline and expectations of on-campus school life. Lessons follow clear timetables, teachers lead live and interactive sessions, and students are expected to participate actively, collaborate thoughtfully, and manage their work independently. These expectations encourage responsibility, engagement, and confidence — qualities that sit at the heart of successful learning.

This approach is particularly important at this stage of a student's journey. It reinforces the habits and attitudes required for success at IGCSE and A Level, including:

  • Punctual attendance and readiness for every live lesson
  • Thoughtful preparation, with materials and prior learning completed
  • Active participation, discussion, and collaboration
  • Independent organisation of assignments and consistent meeting of deadlines
  • Effective use of the Google School ecosystem for planning, submitting work, and responding to feedback
  • Academic integrity and honest, responsible completion of work
  • Balanced daily routines that support focus, well-being, and resilience

Throughout online learning periods, our teachers continue to closely monitor attendance, engagement, coursework, and assessments. Feedback remains timely, purposeful, and supportive, helping students reflect on their learning and make steady progress.

Online learning does not lower expectations. In many ways, it raises them. It places greater emphasis on self-discipline, initiative, and follow-through — qualities that distinguish successful Secondary and Sixth Form students and prepare them for life beyond school.

Our commitment to parents is clear and consistent: to ensure that every child continues to learn well, remain challenged, and develop the confidence, responsibility, and resilience required for long-term academic and personal success, whatever the learning environment.

At TNGS, learning continues with purpose and direction.

We adapt.
We stay focused.
We keep on moving — together.
